One of my major clues to this is having a Bravely Default and then a direct sequel called Bravely Second.
Bravely Default is a role-playing game (RPG) which features a party of four characters navigating the fantasy world of Luxendarc. Having played several of the FF games, with the older ones being my preference, I like Bravely Default more.
Bravely Default and its sequel, Bravely Second, are Final Fantasy games in all but name.
Into this mix steps Bravely Default, a game whose name is…well, unusual for Square Enix’ Final Fantasy-dominated nomenclature. I personally wouldn't consider it a Final Fantasy game, although it definitely has some inspiration from Final Fantasy. This Final Fantasy-ish feel—coupled with that series' undeniable decline—has led many pundits to herald Bravely Default as the game Final Fantasy should be. In the Western release and Bravely Default: For the Sequel , it is unlocked through the Norende Combat Item Shop at Level 11. Octopath was basically individual stories, Bravely's characters develop relationships over time. Either play Bravely Default: Praying Brage and get to rank 5, or watch the true ending of Bravely Default.
Bravely Default started out life as a sequel to the DS game Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light, so the FF nods aren’t too surprising. I feel like Bravely Default will end up becoming a Final Fantasy style numbered series to fill in the gap left by Final Fantasy games evolving out of that old school turn based gameplay. I absolutely adore the Bravely Default series and am patiently (not) waiting for the next main entry in the series.

You can expect normal scenes, extra scenes, sidequest scenes, scenes you only get if you walk certain places, some of which are entirely unnecessary but they add onto the characters. That game had a basic job system, too, but it wasn't as freeform and compelling as Bravely Default's.
